Priority Assessment Program
An employee is injured at work – you want the best
treatment possible and you want it fast! Wait times for non-life
threatening injuries in a hospital’s emergency department
can sometimes take hours.
The Priority Assessment Program allows an employee, who has
received a non-life threatening injury, to be seen by a Focus
Workplace Ltd. Physician that same day. If the employee works
evenings or nights and injure themselves, first priority will
be given to that employee the following business day. The
Priority Assessment Program will save the employee and the
employer valuable time and effort. The Focus Workplace Ltd.
Physician is motivated in keeping the employee at work either
on modified duties and/or by prescribing a rehabilitation
program that will assure the employee the quickest return
to regular duty.
Our physicians are dedicated to:
- Provide urgent care at their office.
- Prescribe, arrange and monitor the rehabilitation process.
- Help your injured employee return to a useful job as soon
as possible.

Testing for drugs of abuse in the workplace began in the
1980’s. Initially a program for safety sensitive positions,
it continues to be the standard with the Department of Transportation.
Today, more and more companies are screening for drugs of
abuse in safety sensitive positions. A safety sensitive position
has been defined as one where the employee’s responsibilities
may impact the health and safety of themselves, coworkers
and / or the public. Studies show that over 70% of alcoholics
and illicit drug users are employed. Drug – Free workplace
programs are most common in aviation, rail, transit and commercial
transportation industries.
An effective program consists of a few key elements:
1. A formal
written policy
2. An Employee
Assistance Program
3. Methods
for detecting illicit drugs use (ie. Urinalysis)
A Medical Review Officer (MRO) is a physician trained by
the Society of Addiction Medicine to review and interpret
urinalysis test results. Under strictest guidelines, our MRO
determines whether a legitimate medical explanation could
account for a “confirmed positive” result. The
donor has an opportunity to provide evidence of a legally
prescribed drug through their doctor or pharmacist.
Safety is everyone’s concern. Protect your employees.

Preventing occupational injuries and illness is the responsibility
of everyone at the workplace. However occupational and non-occupational
injuries and illness’s do occur therefore it is important
for you and your injured worker to minimize the human and
financial impacts by focusing on getting the worker back to
safe and useful work as soon as medically possible.
Most injured/ill workers can return to some type of work
even while they are still recovering. Returning to daily work
and life activities can actually help in the recovery process.
Research shows that the longer a worker is off work due to
injury or illness, the less likelihood there is of that person
returning to work.
The Return to Work (RTW) process can be complicated and involves
many participants, including: the employee, the employer,
the Case Manager. the Health Care Providers and WSIB (in Occupational
injuries/illnesses). Any confusion or misunderstanding of
any part of the process has the potential to create barriers
to RTW as well as create unnecessary delays.
The Focus Workplace Ltd RTW program coordinates all these
participants in the development of an individualized RTW plan.
Our resources of Health Care Providers will assure that proper
diagnosis and recommended modified duties will lead to the
quickest return to regular duties while ensuring the medical
interests of the injured employee. An individualized RTW plan
will lay out all the steps that need to be taken to return
the employee to his regular duties. For samples of these plans

Reduce the Risk!
A Focus Workplace Ltd. medical evaluation provides an independent,
impartial diagnostic service. Clinical examinations can be
conducted by a single physician with significant expertise
in disability legislation or by a highly integrated multi-disciplinary
team of specialized clinicians. This level of expertise ensures
examination integrity, with decisive reporting. Our evidence
based program will reduce the risk of surcharges, future costs
and WSIB overhead increases by focusing on:
• Clarification of diagnosis and impairment
• Prognosis – “What does the future hold?”
• Documentation of complaints/appearance and behaviour
• Management options to optimize the Return to Work process
• Adhering to the highest principles of ethical conduct
Our primary goal is to prevent further disability or disease
by providing the highest level of quality care for an injured
worker, resulting in lower WSIB premiums for you.
